Health and Safety Policy for Removals Holland Park
Removals Holland Park is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, clients, contractors and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. This Health and Safety Policy outlines how we manage risks associated with home and office removals, packing, handling, loading, transport and unloading of goods.
Our Commitment to Health and Safety
The management of Removals Holland Park recognises its responsibility to comply with relevant health and safety legislation and industry best practice. We aim to prevent accidents, injuries and work related ill health through effective planning, risk assessment and continuous improvement.
Health and safety considerations are integral to all aspects of our removal services, including domestic moves, office relocations, packing services and storage handling. We expect all staff and contractors to cooperate fully with this policy.
Health and Safety Objectives
Our key health and safety objectives are to:
Identify, assess and control risks arising from our removal activities.
Provide and maintain safe systems of work, plant, vehicles and equipment.
Ensure that employees are competent to carry out their tasks and receive appropriate training, instruction and supervision.
Reduce manual handling risks during lifting, carrying and loading of items.
Minimise the likelihood of slips, trips and falls in properties, stairwells and loading areas.
Promote safe driving standards and vehicle safety during local and longer distance journeys.
Encourage a positive health and safety culture across the company.
Responsibilities
Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with the company management. Management will ensure that adequate resources are provided to implement this policy and monitor its effectiveness.
Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for day to day implementation of safe working practices on removal jobs, including briefing staff on site specific risks, ensuring equipment is used correctly and addressing unsafe behaviour.
Employees are required to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. They must follow company procedures, use equipment properly, report hazards and incidents promptly, and cooperate with any health and safety training provided.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
We carry out risk assessments for our main removal activities and for specific jobs where conditions require additional control measures. These assessments consider risks such as manual handling, working on stairs, access issues, traffic and parking, confined spaces, use of lifting equipment and weather conditions.
From these assessments we develop safe systems of work, including clear procedures for lifting and carrying, using removal trolleys, loading vehicles, securing loads, handling fragile or heavy items and managing access to properties. Staff are informed of relevant risks and controls prior to and during each job.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a key risk in the removals industry. Removals Holland Park provides training in correct lifting techniques, team lifts, route planning within properties and the use of aids such as trolleys, sliders and straps. Heavy or awkward items are assessed individually and additional measures are put in place where required.
All equipment used for removal work, including trolleys, ramps, blankets and securing straps, is maintained in a safe condition and inspected regularly. Damaged or defective equipment is taken out of use immediately.
Vehicle and Driving Safety
Our vehicles are maintained in roadworthy condition and inspected regularly. Drivers are required to conduct basic checks before use and to report any defects promptly. Loads are distributed and secured properly to prevent movement during transport.
Drivers and crew are expected to follow all road traffic rules and to drive in a safe and considerate manner, taking into account weather, congestion and local conditions. Journey planning aims to reduce unnecessary risks and fatigue.
Site Safety at Client Properties
When working in client homes, offices or other premises, our teams take steps to protect both people and property. This includes keeping walkways clear, using protective coverings where appropriate, managing cables and equipment to avoid trip hazards and controlling access to areas where heavy lifting or carrying is in progress.
Special attention is given to staircases, narrow corridors, lifts and shared access points. Where required, staff will coordinate with clients and building managers to ensure safe and orderly movement of items.
Training, Information and Supervision
All employees receive induction training covering health and safety responsibilities, emergency procedures, manual handling, use of equipment and vehicle safety. Additional training is provided as required for specific tasks and roles.
Supervisors monitor working practices on site, provide guidance and correct unsafe behaviour. Health and safety information is communicated through briefings, toolbox talks and updates when procedures or regulations change.
Accident, Incident and Near Miss Reporting
All accidents, incidents and near misses must be reported as soon as possible to allow proper investigation and to prevent recurrence. Records are maintained and reviewed to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Where necessary, control measures and procedures are revised and additional training is provided. Employees are encouraged to speak up about potential hazards without fear of blame.
Welfare, Health and Wellbeing
We recognise the importance of employee welfare and wellbeing in maintaining a safe working environment. Reasonable rest breaks, access to drinking water and appropriate work clothing are provided. Staff are encouraged to raise any concerns about fitness for work, fatigue or stress that may affect safety.
Continuous Improvement and Policy Review
Removals Holland Park is committed to continuous improvement in health and safety performance. This policy and our associated procedures are reviewed regularly and whenever there are significant changes in operations, legislation or identified risks.
Feedback from employees and clients is welcomed and used to enhance our systems. By working together and maintaining high standards, we aim to deliver removal services that are safe, efficient and respectful of everyone involved.
